Pasta with Tomato Cream Sauce Recipe

Hi everyone! It’s Liz from Love Grows Wild, and boy do I have a delicious and simple pasta recipe for you today!

This tomato cream sauce is not only insanely delicious, but can also be thrown together in just a few minutes! Simply toss with your favorite pasta noodle, and you have a quick and satisfying meal that your whole family will love!

Ever since Pioneer Woman kindly introduced me to this recipe, I’ve been obsessed ever since. There is just something about tomatoes and cream coming together that makes pasta magic happen! What I think I love most about this recipe (other than how amazingly delicious it tastes) is how quickly you can be eating it. Just a few simple ingredients that you probably already have on hand and enough time to boil a package of noodles, and you’re ready to stuff your belly with delicious, creamy pasta that tastes as good as a restaurant!

I love adding the cream to a big pot of simmering tomato sauce and watching it turn from deep red to that beautiful light orange color. It’s a wonderful sight to see!

After the noodles and sauce are done, all that is left is to toss everything together with some chopped basil for a punch of fresh, herby flavor at the end. It’s incredible!

Tomato Cream Sauce Pasta

This pasta is a fantastic meal all on its own, especially when adding some grilled chicken or steaks to the dish. But it works great as a side dish too! Either way I know you will LOVE this recipe!

Pasta with Tomato Cream Sauce

Yield: 8 servings

Pasta with Tomato Cream Sauce

A simple and quick recipe for a weeknight family dinner!


  • 12 ounces linguine or other pasta
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 medium onion, finely diced
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 – 15 ounce cans tomato sauce
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • pinch of sugar
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan or Romano cheese
  • chopped fresh basil


  1. Cook pasta according to package directions and reserve a few ladlefuls of hot pasta water.
  2. Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add onion and cook until translucent, about 4 minutes.
  4. Add garlic and cook, stirring, for 1 minute more.
  5. Pour in tomato sauce and add salt, pepper, and sugar.
  6. Stir to combine and add more seasoning to taste, if desired.
  7. Cook sauce until warm then stir in heavy cream.
  8. Add Parmesan and drained pasta.
  9. Toss to coat pasta in sauce and add hot pasta water to thin if neccessary.
  10. Top with fresh basil and serve immediately.
